What Is a Patent?
A Patent is a 7-bet system built from 3 selections: 3 singles, 3 doubles and 1 treble. It's effectively a Trixie (3 doubles + 1 treble) with the 3 singles added on top, which means just 1 winner from your 3 selections guarantees some return.
The 7 Lines
With three selections A, B and C, a Patent covers: 3 singles (A, B, C), 3 doubles (AB, AC, BC), and 1 treble (ABC). A £1 Patent costs £7 total, or £14 each-way.
With 1 winner, you collect on that single line only. With 2 winners, you collect on 2 singles plus the 1 double combining them. With all 3 winning, every one of the 7 lines pays out, giving the largest possible return.
Why Choose a Patent Over a Trixie
The Patent's main advantage over a Trixie is the guaranteed return from a single winner — useful when you're less confident that 2 of your 3 selections will land, but still want exposure to all three in combination. The cost is 3 extra lines of stake (7 vs 4) compared to a Trixie built from the same selections. As with any system bet, weigh the extra stake for the singles against how likely you think a lone winner scenario actually is.
